Season Preview:

The '04-05 Cedars kick off the season Saturday December 11th at the Blue Mountain Tournament at BMHS in Orwigsburg.

LMS Wrestling Results

Blue Mountain Place Finishers:

Lebanon entered 10 wrestlers in the 16 team Blue Mountain Tournament. All members of the team (newcomers) were there to cheer the Cedars on. Nate Dennis turned in a nice day going 2-2 at 110 wrestling hard each match, Manny Gonzalez at 130, Cameron Burke competed at 145, Dave Root also went 2-2 on the day at 155, Tom Houser with a well earned win in one of the consolation rounds at 165, Dan Gettle and Dave Heisler to the championship matches at their respective weights, 210 and 250. Congradulations to Dan for finishing 2nd place at 210 weight and Dave winning the 250 class in a battle of the big guys. Overall the Cedars team came in 12th out of the 16 teams, great job by all the wrestlers on an exciting and learning day!

Lebanon- Garden Spot 12/16/04

At Garden Spot was perhaps the quickest match I have ever witnessed with all matches ending by falls in the first period. Starting at 95 the Cedars jumped out to a 24 to 0 lead in the match, however GS bounced back to knot the score at 24. Back and forth one pin after another for both teams, tied 42 apiece Lebanon lost at 80 and forfeited 85 and 90 - 35 minutes later the final result 60-42 for GS. This Cedar team has some faces to watch, all with pins for Lebanon were: Alex Luzon, Lowell Spangler, Jose Martinez, Dave Root, Dan Gettle, Dave Heisler and Luiz Luzon. Good job team, see you at the NL tournament!

Northern Lebanon Place Finishers:

At the NL Invitational we got perhaps a preview of things to come in the future of the Lebanon County HS Tournament with all Lebanon county JR High teams in attendance. With all cedars entered it boiled down to 3 weight classes in the medal rounds. At 110, Jose Martinez took 4th place in the consolation round after dropping a tough 1 point lose to eventual champ from Manheim Township earlier in the day. Next at 210 class Dan Gettle faced Cedar Crest's Tyler Gerdes in the championship final. It did'nt take Tank long to 'rock n roll' as Dan pinned him at 1:08 of the 1st to claim the 210 weight class. And rounding out the day was Dave Heisler at 250 HWT. Dave continued to maul his opponents finishing by pinning ELCO's Jake Walmer at 1:21 of the 1st in the 250 class final. Congradulations to all on a long day.

Lebanon- J.P.McCaskey 12/21/04

The Cedars snuffed out the Red Tornado from McCaskey tuesday night at LHS gym. Sealing the deal at the upper weights, Tom Houser stuck his man at 185 followed by Dan Gettle at 210 and Dave Heisler at 250 in 25 second fashion. Katlyn Tomecek won at 75 along with Matt Pete at 155. Alex Luzon at 105, Jose Martinez at 110 with a fall, Nate Dennis at 115 and newcomer Doug Ensweiler winning at 122. Great match Cedars!

Lebanon- Cedar Crest 12/22/04

Maybe a letdown from the night before, maybe taking for granted an opponent, maybe just a good Cedar Crest team. Whatever the case the Cedars dropped the match to the Falcons in resounding fashion under the light at the old gym at CC. Some highlites for Lebanon were wins by Keith Jenkins at 138, Dave Root at 155, Tom Houser winning 165 and Dave Heisler continuing at 250. Some tough fought matches with 1 point losses were Jose Martinez 110 and Nate Dennis at 115. The Cedars now break for the holidays and will prepare for Lampeter Strasburg on January the 6th.

Lebanon- Lampeter Strasburg 1/6/05

Forfeiting four matches is a hard hill to climb, the Cedars tried to climb that hill but let's just say it was more like a mountain. Bright spots for Lebanon included Jose Martinez @ 110 looking strong 8-1, Cameron Burke getting the pin @ 145, Tom Houser @ 165 decking his man, Dan Gettle at 210 and the bear Dave Heisler pinning @ 250. In JV action Ian Minnich won @ 185 and John Klopp @ 110. The holiday timeoff was evident for some, but I am sure they will get into shape again fast for this is a better team than showed up tonight.

Action from L-S match: Dave Heisler greeting his opponent, Tom Houser getting the win and Tony Cotto getting his base.

Lebanon- Ephrata 1/11/05

There were so many forfiets in this match by both clubs and cedars who wrestled up a class that honestly I really don't know who won certain matches. I do remember Cameron Burke winning again at 145 by a decision and Dave Heisler pinning another at heavyweight. The cedars needed some key matches near the end and they just did not go the cedars way.

Lebanon- Manheim Central 1/13/05

Collecting wins for the cedars were Tom Houser, Dan Gettle, Dave Heisler, Doug Ensweiler and another cedar. For some match photos (from MC perspective)Lebanon vs. Manheim Central

Lebanon- E-town 1/15/04

At Lebanon High the Cedars dropped another match to the Bears from E-town. Continuosly having forfiets puts the Cedars in the hole early. Winning for Lebanon were Alex Luzon(105), Jose Martinez(110), Katlyn Tomecek(75), Dan Gettle(210), Dave Heisler(250). Keith Jenkins at 138 suffered a tough 5-3 defeat with a controversial call at the buzzer giving a questionable takedown to E-town's wrestler. Next up for Lebanon is the Eagles from Cocalico Wednesday evening in Denver.

Lebanon- Cocalico 1/19/05

With a couple of key Cedars sick, and some misunderstanding that the match was still on even with the snow, the team (the 8 that were there or not sick) made the snowy trip to Denver. I was not on hand, but what was relayed to me was, well, with 8 wrestlers and 18 classes your not going to come close...and thats what happened. Two Cedars out of the depleted team won that night, Alex Luzon by decision and Dave Heisler by fall.

Lebanon- Elco- 1/21/05

Winning for Lebanon was Catlyn Tomecek(75), Alex Luzon(100), Keith Jenkins(138), Tom Houser(165), Dan Gettle(210) and Dave Heisler(250).

Lebanon- Palmyra 1/24/05

On a snowy night with a cross county counterpart the Cedars wreslted a tough match with the Cougars from Palmyra. Continuing on fine season performances for Lebanon were: Catlyn Tomecek(75), Luis and Alex Luzon(95 & 100), Jose Martinez(110), Manny Gonzalez(122), Tom Houser(165), Dan Gettle(210) and Dave Heisler(250) - all pinning their opponents.

Lebanon- Conestoga Valley 1/27/05

While the Cedar Grapplers closed out their dual season tonight with a loss to CV, several bright spots did occur. First congratulations to Lebanon Heavyweight Dave Heisler for finishing the regular season UNDEFEATED with a perfect record of 16-0! Also the Cedars 210 Dan Gettle with a stellar record of victories in the teens with only a few losses. Jose Martinez, Alex and Luis Luzon, Tom Houser, Cameron Burke, John Klopp, Jake Capretti, Katlyn Tomecek, Keith Jenkins on wrestling hard every match and continuing to improve. And coaches Steve Celaschi and Jesse Colon on getting the program going in the right direction, team wins will come as the program continues to improve. Now several Cedars look towards good showings at next Saturdays Optimist LL-League Tournament, wrestle tough and bring home some hardware!

*** LL-League Optimist Tournament 2/4 & 2/5/05***

Congrates to the Cedars, taking 6 members to this years seasons end tourny. Friday night action began with Manny Gonzalez and Tom Houser winning their pigtail bouts at 115 and 165. Having done this they both were faced with the large tasks of being paired in the prelims against the #1 seeds. Both Manny and Tom did their best before seeing their season come to an end with losses to their opponents. Meanwhile Alex Luzon 105, Jose Martinez 110, Dan Gettle 210 and Dave Heisler 250 all had prelim round wins moving them into Saturday's action. As the action continued the Cedars wrestled well, both Alex and Jose had several very hard fought wins in their division advancing them to the medal rounds. The big guys, Dan and Dave were dropping the competition one by one. Dan pinned all 3 of his opponents placing him in the championship final at 210 while Dave was doing the same at 250 until his semi-final match. One had to be at Hempfield to have believed the result of what I can describe as a classic match that had everything between Dave and Cedar Crest's Wade Stuckey. The two had previously met during the dual season with Dave getting the pin, and the same looked apparent this time but for one twist of fate, this outcome was different. Alex, Jose and Dave won their matches to place 3rd in their divisions. With the championship final on the line at 210, Dan wrestled Ephrata's 19-1 Zach Zimmerman. Like their match earlier in the season Dan was more the aggressor but the defensive minded opponent held Gettle off to post a 6-2 win. With only 4 wrestlers representing the Cedars on Saturday, they managed to finish 11th as a team out of 22 schools, outstanding in my book! Congratulations to Alex Luzon - 3rd place finisher LL-League 105 lbs. finishing the season at 14-8. To Jose Martinez - 3rd place finisher at LL-League 110 lbs. season record, 14-5. And Dan Gettle - 2nd place finisher at LL-League 210 lbs. going 16-4 on the season. Finally Dave Heisler - 3rd place finisher at LL-League 250 lbs. at 19-1 on the year. Outstanding job guys on a great season! Also thanks to Coaches Celaschi and Colon on working with all our wrestlers and getting them to strive for more.

See what's going on in the Lancaster-Lebanon League

***21st Annual Hamburg Tournament 1/9/05***

Four members of team LMS traveled to the ancient Hamburg Fieldhouse for the 21st Annual Hamburg Tournament. Dave Root, Tom Houser, Dan Gettle, Dave Heisler and special thanks to Coach Colon for making the trip.Dave Root and Tom Houser competed in the 165 class each going 1 & 1, Root with a forfeit and loss in the champ bout to finish 2nd and Tom's loss to the eventual champ then coming back with a convincing 10-5 win to take 3rd place. With the 215 and 250 classes combined Dan Gettle and Dave Heisler made short work of their opening round opponents pinning each. That set up the title match against the 2, back and fourth the Tank and Bear wrestled locked up at 3-3 until Heisler got a takedown and eventual pin in the final seconds to win. Be assured both friends got a workout!

*** Middletown Raider Tournament 1/29/05***

A group of middle school wrestlers from Lebanon attended the 13th Annual Middletown Blue Raiders Tournament this past Saturday. For the Cedars, Luiz Luzon(100)placed 3rd, Alex Luzon(105) took 2nd, Jose Martinez(110) 1st, Manny Gonzalez(115) 1st, Jacob Capretti(130) 3rd, Keith Jenkins(138) 2nd, Cameron Burke(145) top 8, Tom Houser(165) 1st, Tony Cotto(165) 3rd, Dan Gettle(210) 2nd and Dave Heisler(HWT) 1st. Thanks to Coach Colon and everyone else involved on making a good day.

*** LL-League JV Tournament 2/12/05***

Several JV Cedars competed at CV's LL-League JV Tournament. Placing 4th in his division was Matt Pete having a solid day and bringing home a medal. Keith Jenkins advanced to the championship round and lost a close match to place 2nd. And the suprise of the day was Tony Cotto going unbeaten into the final round at his weight. TC wrestled hard and even had a tooth knocked out, but just came up a little short to finish as the runner-up. Good job to all the Cedars who competed, look foward to seeing these guys next season!

*** State College Tournament, Penn State University 2/27/05***

Tom Houser, Dan Gettle and Dave Heisler made the trip to State College, PA for the largest 1-day tournament on the east coast. 24 states represented, 1300 plus wrestlers and quality competition is what was had. Tom competed in the loaded 165 lb. class while Dan placed 4th in the 210 bracket beating some quality opponents and dropping a couple close decisions. Dave pinned his way into the championship match at Hwt against unbeaten Evan Reed from Waynesboro. Back and fourth the match went until Reed finally padded his point lead until time expired. A 2nd and 4th for the Cedars, not to shabby.

*** Hazleton Couger Wrestling Tournament 3/5/05***

Hazleton High School was the location of the 8th Cougar Classic. For Lebanon, Jake Capretti, Tony Cotto, Dan Gettle and Dave Heisler made the trip to the 'Big House'. Dan was the defending champion at 215 having won last year and his winning ways continued for 2005. Pinning his opponents in impressive fashion, Tank continues to reign at 215. Jake and Tony lost their 1st round matches to the eventual champions at those weights, tough seed but these 2 will only get better. Dave wrestled a tough kid from North Schukill going into overtime. What resulted was a controversial takedown call against Dave costing him the match. Only making the bear madder, Dave pinned thru the consolation th capture 3rd.

*** Governor Mifflin Mustang Open Tournament 3/12/05***

422 East to Shillington was where 3 Cedars traveled Saturday for the Governor Mifflin Tournament. Summing up the day for Lebanon wrestlers as follows: Dan Gettle wins the 210 weight class after buzz sawing thru his opponents. Dave Heisler finished 2nd at heavyweight and Tony Cotto placed 3rd at the 185 division. These 3 continue to get the extra mat time which continues to pay off.

*** Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling Area 9 Regional Tournament 3/26/05***

Pennsylvania Junior Wrestling consists of 11 areas throughout the state offering competition for the following age groups - 10& under, 12& under and 14& under. Each area holds sub and regional qualifiers with the top 2 place finishers at the area's regional advancing to the PJW State Championships in Hershey modeled after the PIAA State Tournament. PJW Area 9 consists of 11 counties - Adams, Berks, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Schuykill, & York. Dan Gettle wrestled 'up' in the 252 division, placed first at the New Oxford Sub qualifier and again 1st at this past weekend's Area 9 Regional held at Central Dauphin H.S. by defeating Lower Dauphin's Tyler Watts in the finals. The victory gives Dan the opportunity to compete in this upcoming weekends state tournament in Hershey - give'em heck Tank! Thanks goes to Freshman team coach Celaschi providing open mat leading up to the tournament and the big man Dave Heisler, training partner and coach.
